01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Down a hallway on the 1 floor of a building in Kitano-Hakubaicho, Longka opens into a calm, unhurried dining room. One of the signature offerings is dandan noodles, built around a mellow broth led by the fragrant aroma and gentle natural sweetness of toasted sesame. Dishes arrive with Sichuan pepper and chili oil on the side, letting diners adjust the heat and numbing spice at their own pace. Those craving immediate punch can turn to the rich spicy dandan noodles, while the chilled version provides a refreshing, clean-tasting alternative.
Vying with the noodles for pride of place is the sweet and sour pork, prepared with tender pork fillet. Glazed in deep, dark black vinegar, the moist meat pairs naturally with rice and leaves a clean, elegant finish. The restaurant's rice dishes are equally substantial, ranging from a savory rice bowl topped with braised pork belly that has absorbed every drop of its simmered sauce, to tenshinhan featuring a soft egg omelet concealing tender prawns.
For a complete spread, the sets paired with dim sum are particularly satisfying. Juicy soup dumplings, plump steamed prawn dumplings, and crisp egg-wrapped spring rolls arrive on neatly composed trays. Some combinations finish with almond jelly or warm sesame balls, making them just as convenient for an evening meal as for a weekday lunch.
The setting works just as smoothly for solo diners dropping in for a quick bite as it does for those lingering over beer or Shaoxing wine with shared plates of chili prawns and mouthwatering chicken.
